When you go on holiday you usually associate them with taking a plane somewhere nice and hot or catching a train to mainland Europe through the Channel Tunnel. This tends to be the norm for many holidaymakers but there are plenty of people who prefer to stick to four wheels and the road as a recent survey has found.
The survey of 2,000 people has found that 71 percent of people found flying a pain and 69 percent hated the thought of taking a train. The number of people who have either driven their own car or hired one specifically for their holiday has risen over the past few years which seem to suggest that more people are shirking the skyways for the highways!
Obviously there are a good percentage of holidaymakers who are afraid of flying and people that hate being cooped up with little leg room so this may explain why so many people dislike flying. Taking a train is often associated with lengthy delays in this country so that sheds some light on why people hate trains so much too.
So how are people's holidays being spent if they're driving? Well once you get off the ferry in mainland Europe there's many countries and sights you can go and see. Many people may choose to go abroad but when they get there will find that there's so much to see that they need to think about car hire, this is typically done when people go to Spanish islands or are in America and want to drive to all the theme parks.
Whilst many holiday resorts have excursions to most tourist attractions, travelling on a coach jam packed with like minded tourists isn't everybody's idea of a good time. Car hire in Florida is very popular as most families will have younger children and prefer to travel together so they'll probably hire a car, most likely a larger people carrier.
Car rental is just one way people can drive as opposed to other more stressful travel, driving your own car or holidaying in caravans are some other ideas that those who don't want to fly can take to get the most from their holiday without all the stress of flying or travelling on a train.
